EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Warring Mexican drug cartels have given their hit men permission to cross into the United States to kill their targets, according to warnings received by U.S. authorities.

Police and federal agents told The Associated Press about the warnings Monday, and officials along the border are beefing up security.

"We received credible information that drug cartels in Mexico have given permission to hit targets on the U.S. side of the border," El Paso police spokesman Officer Chris Mears said. "One of the first things we did was to notify all officers in our department of the situation."

Mears says authorities learned of the threat last week. U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Border Patrol officers have also been told about the threat and have ramped up security at border crossings.

"We are aware of it and we are addressing it," Chief CBP Officer Rick Lopez said. "CBP is on heightened alert ever since we became aware of the threats in Mexico."

U.S. Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said agents in the El Paso Sector, which includes the two most western Texas counties and all of New Mexico, said Border Patrol officials "are reinforcing the importance of vigilance."

"We are closely monitoring these developments and will act accordingly to protect the integrity of the border," Mosier said. "We are always in the business of analyzing this type of information."

Drug cartel violence has claimed thousands of lives across Mexico this year. Nearly 800 people have been killed this year in Ciudad Juarez, a hard-scrabbled city of about 1.3 million people across the Rio Grande from El Paso.

Exactly when will our stupid government decide we need a reason to seal off our Southern border?

Probably not until we no longer have a southern border.

I'm afraid you're right. It's getting really bad isn't it?

Bad isn't the word for our current situation. Things are just so completely and unbelievably out of hand it's scary. I still can't believe our government won't acknowledge it.

Default No need to acknowledge what you have created.

The reason we get no acknowledgment of the problem is to them, there is no problem. In fact, everything is going according to plan. Sure, public opinion is a minor setback, but as you can see by the government's actions they have no real plan to rid us of the massive illegal presence in this country.

Their amnesty is the key to permanently opening the doorway to a united continent. No more borders, just one big happy family. Free trade all around, no tariffs, and the working American citizen gets buried further under the massive economic impact caused by this global agenda. I can only hope that the minor setback, "public opinion and outrage", will continue to grow and eventually outweigh the power of corporate America.

But the chances of that are slimming every day. We are being told daily that we should all learn Spanish. That it is essential for our children to speak Spanish. Why else would they be pushing this if they did not intend to ignore our voice and grant amnesty to these illegals now present. After which they will finish their superhighway into Mexico and then PRESTO, one big happy super-country. Its coming folks, and only our thinning power as the real rulers of this country can save us now.

We the people, rule this country. We make it run and we can make it ours again. We have just gotten lax on our duty and asleep on the watch. Lets wake up and take back what is ours. Our country!! Be passive, boycott businesses that hire illegals! If you suspect there is an illegal on that businesses payroll, don't buy their goods. If "big business" starts feeling a pinch in their wallet caused by consumers boycotting their stores they will quickly get behind the anti-illegal crowd just so they don't go bankrupt.

And don't think your small contributions won't help. Just do your part and spread the word. Get as many people as you can to start being vigilant about the staff of businesses they frequent. We can passively take control of this situation, but we have to work together. Sounds familiar doesn't it! UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!!

You’re absolutely right. We MUST hit them where it hurts…..in their pockets. Nothing else will work. They are driven by greed, and it will require a substantial bottom line reduction to get their attention. I’m doing what I can. I refuse to patronize businesses I suspect of hiring illegals. There is also a group devoted to tracking illegal alien employers. I’m on their email list, and regularly receive the names of businesses other citizens have reported.

Excellent post; you are 100 percent correct. Reps aren't worth much here in teh P&OC forums, but yours should be worth 100 points.

Perhaps, when there are 800 persons killed in El Paso to match the 800 persons killed in Ciudad de Juarez by the drug gangs. Or maybe when the drug gangs take over towns on the US side of the border, or maybe...?

Yet you still see anti-illegals protesting and baiting pro-illegal groups. Why?!? I don't get it. They should be protesting outside the gates of "the big house".
