New Curbs Set on Arrests of Illegal Immigrants - WSJ.com

Quote:
The Department of Homeland Security said Friday it was revising a program that authorized local police to enforce federal immigration law -- a controversial aspect of U.S. border policy.

Opponents said the program, known as 287g, was intended to identify criminal aliens but instead has led to racial profiling; it allowed local police to identify and arrest illegal immigrants for such minor infractions as a broken tail light. Program supporters said it has been an effective tool for combating illegal immigration.

The new guidelines sharply reduce the ability of local law enforcement to arrest and screen suspected illegal immigrants. They are intended to prevent sheriff and police departments from arresting people "for minor offenses as a guise to initiate removal proceedings," according to Homeland Security.

I read about this as well.

I suppose that this is just a mini-amnesty being implemented in order to please the ethnocentricists, pro-illegals and amnesty pushers so that they all can be assured that Obama will work to push for the passage of the upcoming future amnesty--whenever that may be.

Let's hope that the recession and economic troubles continue for the rest of 2009 and until 2010 so that any talks of amnesty will be unlikely, stifled or delayed even more.

I don't think they can just assume that you are a bank robber and arrest you, unless you can prove that you are not a bank robber.

racial profiling is not prohibited by law enforcement. it is not the issue.. the issue is illegal immigration being here w/o papers. our government has winked at it for too long.
we now have a failing economy you are no longer welcome here.

Why are we forced to let illegals go? If they come to the attention of the law, they should be taken into custody and have deportation proceedings begun. Let's pretend that in the past I robbed a bank. If I am driving at night with a broken tail light, the cops pull me over because of the tail light. They enter my information into their computer and lo and behold I am wanted for robbing a bank. I strongly suspect that their next step would be to arrest me and take me in. They were not specifically looking for me, the bank robber, but if I drive around with something like a broken tail light I run the risk of drawing their attention and being arrested.
What if all I got when I robbed the bank was $2000? Or what if I shoplifted $75 worth of clothes? Good Lord, an illegal steals more than that from the US taxpayers when they skip out on the hospital bills for their anchor baby. (I don't give a hoot if said anchor is an American. The hospital bills are sent to the parents to pay, not the baby.)

Frankly, I am sick and tired of way Americans are expected to obey the law while the invaders are free to do as they please.

If he is Latino, of course! Racial profiling is so detrimental to their rights. Breaking the laws by even being here doesn't count.

That's right. All they have to do is

1. start shouting about racism and discrimination and

2. call NCLR, Lulac, MALDEF, ACLU, or the SPLC

and bingo! Any and all criminal charges disappear as if by magic!
