She said it will only be for 18 months. Having said that...
Quote:
She can grant temporary protected status to immigrants in the United States from countries that have suffered a catastrophic war or “an environmental disaster” that would make it dangerous to deport their citizens back home. Although the status is granted originally for a short period, in practice it has been renewed for years for citizens of some countries. Immigrants from Honduras and Nicaragua have enjoyed the status since 1999, after Hurricane Mitch battered their countries. El Salvador was added to the list in 2001. Somalia and Sudan were added more recently.

Since 1999 and 2001 and still on that list. Looks like it won't be 18 months.

"Haitian nationals on US soil" could be on student/worker/tourist visas. Of course you immediately jump to the illegal immigrant shtick.

Illegals get to stay as well..deportations suspended. They may also fall under the protected status and get to stay as well.

The Obama administration extended a special immigration status on Friday to Haitians living illegally in the United States that protects them from deportation for 18 months and allows them to work here.
Administration officials said the special status would cover at least 100,000 Haitians believed to be living in the United States illegally, as well as about 30,000 Haitians who had been ordered deported.

Actually it's 130 000 illegals according to the NY Times.

I'd have to agree with this. Where are they going to go after all? I wouldn't drop a dog in Port au Prince much less humans. Now, after everything is stabilized they should be deported - but I don't think that is going to happen for a long, long time.

Great, now we will get stuck with more anchor babies to take care of.

Who is she fooling, they will never go home.

Let South America take them.

We have no more room and need to deport the crap out of Mexicans now.
