Another stupid list. How did such a mundane town like "Lake In the Hills" get in the top ten with mediocre schools. Shouldn't great schools be a primary factor in a top ten list for the best places for families?

Public school performance has relatively low weight in their methodology. Perhaps they are assuming that many families have an option to go private if they so choose. Great public schools are certainly important but I do like some of the other areas that they have accounted for - number of playgrounds/attractions, percentage of families with kids under 18, socioeconomic environment, etc. while schools are certainly important it shouldn't be the only factor in determining whether a suburb is attractive to a young family.

Okay, but even if schools are a low priority, I still don't get why a town like "LITH" is so high on the list. It's a very depressing place to be.

LOL this list is a joke. How is Skokie worse than Addison for families? wtf? And West Chicago has a higher ranking than Schaumburg?

I have a few friends that moved out there with young kids and love it. Have you lived there?

It appears LITH scored very well in the saftey department. City Data crime rate numbers support this. Saftey is a big deal in general but even more important for families with young kids.

A joke? Which part of the criteria do you disagree with? Sure, it's not perfect but I like lists that look outside the normal comfort zone of only highlighting suburbs with top schools/affluent population. There are other important considerations for families to think about and I think this analysis does a decent job in attempting to quantify some of these other considerations.
