Wow. Great memories. Aunt Rosie was my aunt too. My grandma Helen was her sister. Maybe Uncle Al and Aunt Mary are relations to you. I left Peoria in 1985.

The word "cat" does not immediately bring to mind images of four-legged furry pets.

Just because it is insufferably hot and humid.... I think the word CAT stirs images of the yellow, roaring, smoke belching, earth moving monsters, whilst the word 'cat' is a purr-fectly clear image of a feline type animal. meow. .

A yellow tabby is a cat. A yellow earth moving machine built by CATERPILLAR employees is commonly called CAT. .

Sandy's and Steak n' Shake on SW Adams before I-474 was a reality. It was not too far from the Peoria-Bartonville county line. Once in Peoria the only routes to Pekin was the Cedar Street or Franklin Street bridges, or IL 9/IL 29 junction on the far SW side of Bartonville.

Too much slang?

CAT = Caterpillar, Inc.
cat = a feline
Sandy's & Hardee's = same as McDonald's in China
WNW = the compass point on the horizon.
I + number (I-74) = U.S. 4 lane highway
Bridges in America are sometimes named to honor people, places or things. Some. like the Golden Gate Bridge in California, are large and structurally significant. Others, like Stand Watie Bridge, in Oklahoma are very small in comparison, but are significant to local history. There are some, like the very small townshiop bridge near the WW II camp in Fulton County, that have no name.

It's been a Dairy Queen for years, but back in the 70s, I remember one of my first lessons in the kindness of strangers when I rode my bike there (from my house on Stratford Drive) and did not have enough change in my pocket to pay for my food. I stood there embarrassed until someone behind me made up the difference.
