Doing a roadtrip along I-80 next week and was curious what's of note in the state near that area? Won't be hanging out too much, just curious if there's any can't miss type attractions, restaurants, etc. anywhere along 80 that I should make a point to stop for.

Also, if you've been anywhere else along 80 and have any suggestions I'll be driving along the entire length of the highway and we'll be looking for neat things to take a break and see.
(more details here: The Transition: I-80 » Big Apple or Bust)

Well ... as your blog states, I suggest Notre Dame! You could also veer off and visit the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore near Chesterton.

You're probably already on your way, but I highly recommend a short jog off I-80 in Porter County and a visit to Indiana Dunes State Park (north on IN Hwy 49). Beautiful area, on the south shore of Lake Michigan. There are some Dunes photos in an album on my C-D profile page.

Hope this ^ is tongue-in-cheek. I grew up in Gary, and presently work in Gary, and I sure wouldn't recommend anyone stop here along the way!

I second PJ8's suggestion...the Indiana Dunes is no doubt one of the most scenic areas of Indiana. If you're taking the 80 and want some good pics, that's the place to go.

If you are coming though in the summer a minor league baseball game at the Gary Railcats is a inexpensive fun thing to do. There is enough of a police presence around the stadium so you don't have to worry about your car (free parking too). Sometimes the game is pretty good and they do all kinds of fun things between innings.

If you like one of the biggest flea markets (and tourist traps) in the country check out Shipshewana in Amish country.

I took my son last summer. It was a pretty cool. My parents, aunts, uncles all were in a camping club when I was growing up. I didnt really know much about the RV industry until we moved here. It was fun seeing the old styles and thinking, wow that is the trailer my aunt and uncle had! Even my teenage son enjoyed it and trust me, that is a feat. lol.
