My wife and I have been considering moving to this state...but the tornado thing we read about is kind of scary. We live in Washington right now and we just don't get dangerous weather...so the idea of even a slim chance of being killed in a tornado is too much for us.
But I noticed that a lot of the tornado's happen to the south of Indiana...so does that mean tornado's never occur in the northern areas of Indiana?

Tornados should not prevent you from moving to Indiana. I grew up near South Bend and we had a tornado go through in 1979. Most towns have good siren systems. And honestly, they are pretty rare.

I've lived in the Indianapolis area 20 years and have never been in a tornado. One blew through after an Indy 500 one year and it wasn't that bad. The local networks track them and there is plenty of warning.

Have tornadoes been happening a lot less frequently lately? I know there have been a lot of major weather changes across the country...a lot of places not getting weather that is typical for their state.

The only tornado that I know of that hit Indiana this summer hit Argos, about an hour south of South Bend, which is in the northern part of the state. Nobody got hurt, just some damage to businesses.

I've never seen one either. When they do occur, they seem to move through a "belt" of sorts in a line from Lafayette to Kokomo to Muncie (northern mid-section of the state) and another belt in the southern mid section of the state. I believe I've heard of a couple hit the southside (Greenwood) in the past 10 or so years, but I don't recall anyone getting too badly hurt. I could be wrong... They are fairly rare, though. We've barely had any severe weather this year.

Tornado's in Northern Indiana are common. A year of so ago, I had a tornado touch down two roads over from my house. And this past July, I had another tornado hit about 10 miles away. For the most part, the "severe" weather here, isn't that severe. There's usually no huge tornados, mostly just F1's and F2's at most. But we do get feel the effect of hurricanes a bit. Also, during the summer it seems like there is always some sort of warning on the t.v for the weather.
I'm not sure why you would want to move to this aweful state of Indiana, but my family is doing just the opposite of you, we plan on moving to northern idaho, up by washington

It can't possible be worse in Indiana as it is here in Washington. Rain 80% of the year...clouds, gloom and mass over-population/horrible traffic. We may not get tornadoes or life threatening stuff like that...but the rest of it just sucks
