at the rate that gasoline prices are dropping in Indianapolis. We are on track to be the cheapest major city gasoline area in the US
Indianapolis Gas Prices
on the bottem of the page is a comparison to the national average and Indy's. Isn't it funny the cheapest major city gasoline center is only 3 hours away from Chicago which is the most expensive. 1$ more in gasoline prices to be exact.

Don't know what you're looking at. Civilian employment is up May 2010 to May 2011 from 2.82 million jobs to 2.86 million, and the unemployment rate is down from 10.4% to 8.2%.

Illinois by comparison has gained fewer jobs in % terms over the same period (70K jobs vs. 40K, but in a state that had more than 2x as many jobs to begin with)...and the unemployment rate is 8.9%.

Non farm payroll employment is down 0.3% in Indiana. It's up 1.1% in IL year to year.

I'm not sure why this has to turn into an Indiana v. Illinois thread. That said, I see no link here that provides any proof that Indy will have the lowest gas prices of any major metro area anytime soon. And I highly doubt it's the case. Required fuel additives meant to fight air pollution usually ensure that we have gas prices above many other metros in other parts of the country. Consequently, even if OP's contention is true, I don't believe it will last long.

Chicago's gas prices are ridiculously high, relatively speaking. Then again, if I'm in Chicago city, I can always eschew the gas station and hop on the CTA.

Correct you are. Might as well look at Indy vs. Chicago then. Metro Indy lost 0.4% of it's non-farm employment April to April, while Chicagoland is up 0.9%.

Table 3. Employees on nonfarm payrolls by state and metropolitan area

Of course, the unemployment rate in Chicago is higher than Indy (8.7% vs. 7.6%, so you could argue the job market in Indy is still in a better place.

Table 1. Civilian labor force and unemployment by state and metropolitan area

When i say Metro area i mean metro areas the size of Indy or bigger. Obiviously theres plenty of small towns that probably have lower gasoline prices than Indy but those are as i said Small towns. I am talking more of big cities with Million plus metro areas.
