How would life be living in Downtown Indianapolis without a car. I would live and work downtown.

Thanks!

It would be doable. We have good grocery, hardware, doctors, dentists, movie theater, shopping, restaurants, etc. all within walking distance of downtown. We live within the one mile radius of the circle and easily walk to all these things.

You can get to the malls and surrounding walkable areas by Indygo bus. You would need to allow some time but doable.

There are two YMCA locations downtown so gym is doable.

Is there something specific you would need?

Living downtown Indy without a car is doable. I lived downtown one summer without a car while in college.

There is only one grocery store in downtown Indy, O'Mallias on Mass Ave. So I would live close to there.

The nice thing about the grocery is it has the same prices on sale items as the suburban stores and is not a hugely expensive (ala Whole Foods) store. It also has some pretty great people working there.

How's the coffee shop scene in downtown?

Mo' Joe is probably the biggest coffee shop downtown, it is closer to the canal and IUPUI.
B java which is not downtown, has opened a small cafe on Pan-Am plaza in the mornings.
Henry's On East is closer to the Mass Ave area. I used to know the owner, I am not sure he own's it anymore though.
There is also a Starbuck's on Mass Ave, by IUPUI, and on the circle.

Just outside downtown, Tin Comet is newly opened on 10th Street, and Monon Coffee has a location at 25th and Central, Foundry Provisions on 16th, and Calvin Fletcher is on the SE side of downtown. There is also a Starbucks's at 15th and Capitol by Methodist Hospital.

There is also a farmer's market in the winter in the City Market building right downtown and a nice selection of vendors in the market itself. In the summer, the market is outside the building on Market Street on Wedensday morning.

You can go to minor league baseball games, Pacer basketball and Colts football right downtown. Many celebrations, festivals, and parades are downtown.

Lots of new apartments opening up in the next year. In fact, an apartment explosion.
