My wife and I are planning a move to Indianapolis next year in May. We have looking into some of these suburbs, such as Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville, Noblesville, Westfield, and Greenwood.

We want to buy a nice home with great schools for our children in the future. Which suburbs have the best schools in Indy Metro Areas?

I appreciate anything you can share with us.

Happy Halloween!

I wonder why this thread is extremely quiet. Does anyone have anything to comment on schools in Indy suburbs?

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the suburban districts. I would add Avon and Brownsburg to the mix. For me, it would come down to proximity to work and access to amenities I value.

If I get the job, I will be doing a lot of work related travel throughout Indianapolis, such as IUPUI, East 42nd St., West Washington St., South Lynhurst Drive, Kessler, and Willowbrook Parkway.

I assume most of them are in Downtown.

It looks like northern suburbs are easily accessible compared to Greenwood.

What do you think?

What price range are you looking at for housing? That will be a factor in some of the cities you mentioned.

If you can afford to live in Zionsville, I would go for it. Highly rated schools that aren't too big. Next door is Carmel which is also highly rated, but they have the largest high school in the state with over 4,800 students.

Northern suburbs are not easily accessible to downtown compared to Greenwood. Greenwood has a direct link with I-65 and downtown Indy is much closer to Greenwood than Carmel, Zionsville, especially Westfield and Noblesville. None of which have direct interstate access to downtown Indy. But you do mention Kessler, Willowbrook, and 42nd St, which are both on the north side. But then W. Washington and S Lynhurst are both west/southwest side. I would probably look away from Noblesville and Westfield just because of the drive to any of those places. Zionsville could be good due to access to I-65. Avon and Brownsburg are nice but you'll have to tougher time accessing places like Willowbrook. I think I would look more toward Greenwood based on the locations you mentioned you'd be traveling to.

Just so we are clear...........East 42nd, South Lynhurst, Kessler, and Willowbrook Prkwy are not downtown, or even that close to downtown. West Washington stretches from downtown to Plainfield. Only a small portion is downtown.

I think if you are just looking at test scores, Carmel and Zionsville are the top two. But the others you mentioned are not far behind and are excellent also.

I recommend coming in advance and checking out two or three suburbs so you can make an informed choice

Westfield schools are very well regarded. It's also one of the fastest growing areas around. With the highway improvements it will be very easy to get into the city.
