Brown County is hilly in the sense that middle TN is, not east TN. If the outdoors is a big part of your life, Indy probably won't fit the bill.
I agree that it is too far to live in if you're commuting to downtown, the airport, or the northside. For someone who is into that sort of thing and wants to make use of it regularly, it would be beneficial to live on the southside though, where those things are only 40 minutes away compared to 1:30 from Carmel or similar areas. That's why I brought them up.

thanks for the honesty, everyone.

we don't need to live in the hills, although hills are beautiful. we don't even need to live right next to the hunting/fishing... as long as there is some. thanks for the links -- we have more research to do.
