How is the Far eastside like? and is Lawrence safe? because I see that it's right by it? what are the borderlines of safe and dangerous in the area? Like is Pendleton pike a safe road or dangerous road?

Some here are going to voice a different opinion, but generally 38th street east to the county line, and a few blocks either way, have a higher crime rate than much of Indianapolis. Such as 42nd and Post, through to Mitthoeffer. 56th street and further north in Lawrence should be good. All relative of course.

If you want to reduce the far east side to boundaries, stay north of 56th Street, south of 21st Street, and east of Shadeland. That is a gross oversimplification, but would suit you fine if that is all you want. Pendleton Pike, I mean, it is ok following the same previous simplification. I do shop at the Menards on Pendleton Pike, but it is unquestionably in a rougher part of the city. 42nd and Post anchors one of the worst areas of the city as far as crime, but the mini-golf and go-kart place in that neighborhood is fun.

Generally agree with the above posters. Basically if an area is in the news frequently for violence, why live there?

I live on the east side. Stay east of Post Road and stay VERY far away from 38th street ANYWHERE in the city. It's solidly bad all the way through the near-north side as well. Other than that, you're probably in the clear. It's just this contained area that's been heavily affected due to declining socioeconomics due to loss of manufacturing.

It's generally bad unfortunately. I grew up in the 60s and 70s near 38th and Post Rd. Lots of violent crime and property crime there now. I would think you'd have to go north of 56th St and east of Post - North and NE of Ft Harrison area. But south of Pendleton Pike all the way out to Mithoeffer and south to 21st St and even below that in some spots are not good.

South of 21st, and East of Post Road is pretty much OK. Preferably, you want to look south of Washington St. (US-40) and East of Mitthoeffer. Very little problems in that area.
