Rep. Andre Carson: Tea Party Wants To See Blacks ‘Hanging On A Tree’
ABC News’ Amy Bingham reports:
While Republican presidential candidates arrange and re-arrange their schedules in an attempt to court Tea Partiers, one House Democratic member of the Congressional Black Caucus is blasting the conservative group for trying to take America back to the days of Jim Crow.
In a
video circulated Tuesday by conservative commentator Glen Beck’s website The Blaze, Indiana Rep. Andre Carson said the Tea Party was preventing African Americans from making progress toward equality.
“This is the effort that we are seeing of Jim Crow. Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second class citizens. Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me… hanging on a tree,” Carson said at a Aug. 22 Congressional Black Caucus Job Tour even in Miami.

The fact this Rush Limbaugh wannabe is listened to by many Indy residents, and thought worthy of posting on a forum like this, is the reason I don't live there anymore.

Andre Carson wont win the election in 2012 cause of the new redrawing the 7th district will be shoved south into a more conservative area. If he does win in 2012 ill bring him some political hell when i complete my move to Indy in 2 years.

Just to clarify, Andre Carson did say "SOME" when he made the comments. He didn't say the entire Tea Party was racist. Giving my two cents though, I believe that a significant number of them are.

WTHR did a phone interview with AC today on the news and he did clarify, not all, but he didn't back down nor should he have. When you have a congressman call the president a "tar baby" without any backlash from ALL OF YOU why should he back down because it's already been proven to have a tinge of truth to it. Now this same group of people on here want to get upset by those comments. If you are not going to call out the racist/improper remarks by tea party members, STHU about anyone else because you only lose credibility with those who don't tolerate it regardless of who says it.

Let's go back to the good old days of 3 years ago when you could criticize a President's policies without being called racist. I guarantee you that many white folks are lamenting their vote.

Andre rode his Grandma's coat tail into office. Period.

Good old Indy, redistrict to white up the vote. The Selma of the North. And FWIW, I'm as pale as they come.

Not so fast, he has a point, nor did he ever all Tea Party members. It's funny, not a single white person was in outrage when the Colorado congressman called the President of the United States a "tar baby" but now want to get upset by this?
