Sooo tired of the idiots that get on comment areas and try to take it over by commenting with either smart aleck remarks or about stuff that has nothing to do with the subject or story . Recently there was a local tragedy and I went to the News site to get more info and a few of this type showed up. I red flagged
them all since their comments were totally inappropriate. Does this do any good?
The tragedy involved children and their families who were at a local event- many were injured and two died.

Tent collapse?

The problem with blocking is that you don't get any, and it sounds like the op wanted some of the comments, just not the idiots.

Depends entirely on who's running the site. The local newspaper here is pretty good about trying to clean up comments. Other sites don't really police it. Others selectively enforce the rules against people that don't espouse particular viewpoints.
