the fact is they are totally wrong here because markets are never zero sum up or down .

in an up market everyone can make money in a bull with no loser . in a bear everyone in the chain can lose money on the way down .

so even those who bought at the current low can lose money monday when we open so it is just a silly premise the op made .

in fact if you did not sell you transferred nothing to anyone else ....

you can offer me any price you like for my cow but if i don't sell , you gained nothing . all you did is offer a low price for my cow.

While I love the Gordon Gekko quote in your writeup, I'm not ready to go so far as to say the correction is over. This could start up all over again on Monday if there's more unfavorable news. I do agree that once the weather warms up in another month, the coronavirus fears should be history.

A Fed funds rate cut would be another mis-guided step -- Is cheaper money the prescribed cure for a virus which aggressively spreads by unknown means ? I think not. The global Supply Chain coming out of the biggest manufacturing base is broken. A 50bp cut in rates is not going to bring it back to normal.

Keep the rate cut in your pocket until this thing is under control.....then a cut would be really helpful.

Rather than tinkering with the money supply, how about a global effort to contain the spread of infections and a major push for a vaccine ??

Agree. I'd rather see a suspension of tariffs than a rate cut.

Ditto. We'll have to see what Sean Hannity decides.

Just out of curiosity, where is the evidence that the virus will go away with warmer weather? Everything I've read pretty much comes to the conclusion that there is really no way to know how warmer weather will affect it. It is possible that it might wane in the Northern Hemisphere with warmer weather (and spread more in the Southern Hemisphere), but we are in uncharted waters with this situation.

He believes that because his Fuhrer told him so.....like a miracle.

To refresh your memory about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, this aggressive Flu was very active during the summer and autumn of that year. That strain of Flu also had a similar mortality rate of about 2% which the very stable genius says is nothing to worry about. But that strain of Flu was very contagious, just like our current outbreak. The scientists, before they were muzzled, said this current strain could infect 1/3 of the world's population if not contained soon. One-third of 7.5 Billion is 2.5 Billion infections. 2% of 2.5 Billion is 50 Million people.

It's all the uncertainty the markets don't like. We don't know exactly how bad the virus is. It's somewhere between a flu and something worse. We don't know how it spreads. We don't know how much people are going to freak out. We don't know if our government and health care system can handle even a moderate outbreak (it probably can't).
