The definitive statement from the White House: "I don't think it's inevitable. It probably will. It possibly will. It could be at a very small level or it could be at a larger level." __D. Trump 2/26/20
At this point, the stock market may have priced in the coronavirus effect.
Everybody wishes to have a crystal ball, but those don't exist in reality.
Just out of curiosity, where is the evidence that the virus will go away with warmer weather? Everything I've read pretty much comes to the conclusion that there is really no way to know how warmer weather will affect it.
Trump said it in his press conference; therefore it is true and accurate and evidence is not needed.
You don't come down on the side of caution. You come down on the side of the worst case scenario. And stop referencing experts to strengthen your argument. They're all guessing without the access to full information.
Whatever. The folks that I referenced have real bona fides in the pertinent fields.
Your expert has a degree from Wharton, or so he says -- he won't produce a transcript. Do you think he minored in Immunology ??
A genius....but you can't see his grades. A Billionaire....but you can't see his finances.
In terms of technical analysis, indicators are showing oversold conditions in all the major indices right now. Same thing with Apple stock. Normally, this means we can expect to see a bounce in the coming week.
80,000 Americans die each year from the flu. Somehow, the market could care less. 2,000 or so deaths from this virus, world wide, almost all in one province in China, and yet everyone is "concerned".
.
Point zero one percent of people die from the flu, the China virus mortality rate is 2% taking your 80k figure and multiply it by 20, that gives you 1.6 million. Does that number give you pause for concern? It should.

What are you talking about? You think I'm a Trump supporter? I said CDC. What does Trump have anything to do with you catastrophizing and throwing out numbers of potentially 50 million dying from this virus. Another poster couple of days ago claimed potentially 80 million dead.

Here comes another statistician who has zero clue about sample distribution. My 10 year old can do your simple minded extrapolation.

See, you're just being intellectually dishonest now, because you didn't quote the entire sentence, therefore altering the context of what I said. I said "stop quoting experts BECAUSE they don't have access to full information".
So, this is my last exchange with you. I don't engage with intellectually dishonest people.

Everything I've read pretty much comes to the conclusion that there is really no way to know how warmer weather will affect it. It is possible that it might wane in the Northern Hemisphere with warmer weather (and spread more in the Southern Hemisphere), but we are in uncharted waters with this situation.
Just a hunch.
As you probably figured out -- I didn't go to medical school.
And while I don't think the left is really hoping for an epidemic -- I do think that they are milking this for all its worth in an attempt to drag down the stock market because that will hurt Trump.
