If we didn't have the HOA, the only thing the county would probably maintain would be the sidewalks and roads in the plantation which is what they are responsible for now.
the storm water management system, and "compliance" are things that tax money is used for. By paying an HOA you are basically paying a surcharge for those services. FYI: I am also opposed to ticketmaster fees

Guamanians, you keep saying stuff like this. But I don't think you really understand the way a HOA works. Tax money is important. It pays for our roads, our schools, etc.... HOAs are also important when there are shared areas that need to be maintained, for example.

I could list several projects that are funded with tax dollars as well as several that are paid for with HOA fees. However, I have a feeling it would be a waste of time. I don't think you understand these services nor do I think you want to.

I doubt the code enforcement of St Johns County is going to come out for my neighbors lawn being dead, bizzare painting of the house, or too many cars parked in the street. However, the HOA will issue a warning for those to keep property values up.

You make it sound as though all the nice neighborhoods are HOA's. There are laws in place for how many cars can be in the street. HOA's are way too restrictive for me. You can have your HOA, but I choose to keep my freedom.

you made your point its a "choice" seems to me HOA's are for more nouveau rich neighborhoods where its case of some people who buy in them really arn't responsible enough to maintain theyr'e own stuff up to neighborhood standards and need to be forced to do so, or for really anal people to be able to tell others what to do and force them do so at the point of a legal gun. but then thats just me I spent 25 yrs in gov service so evryone could be free to make that "choice" I wouldnt do it thats why I live where I do over 1 mile from my nearest neighbor. whom I have met and like (LOL) no I'm not anti social just like my privacy
