My husband is a motorcyclist and I'm concerned about traffic. Is it a problem?

Thanks for any help!
Keep in mind that some places - especially if they're gated - don't allow motor home parking. Some don't allow motorcycles.

I agree with the traffic comments. We moved here from Miami about 15 years ago - and we're in the "what traffic?" camp.

We are retired and live in a gated community - but our community age demographics are basically a lot younger than retired. Probably not what you're looking for. Robyn

We stayed once at a rental in a gated community for three months. Didn't have an RV then, but they had a lot next to the area, fenced, to store RVs.. I don't know what the cost was. I would guess that few gated communities would allow RV parking. I didn't know about motorcycles. Thanks for the tip. We will be sure to ask about it before we rent.

Some do provide a RV parking area, most don't. And some gated communities allow motorcycles in the community and some don't.
I know that Deerwood & the Plantation communities don't allow motorcycle riding in their communities, but you can store one on a trailer
in your garage, and tow it outside the community to ride. I used to do that with my Sportster when I lived in the Plantation almost 30 years ago.
As far as RV storage there are plenty of places all around the area, that will charge you a small fee to safely store your unit. I know that Ocean Grove RV
in St Augustine charges $74 a month to store my son-in-law's 36' motor-home, as the community he lives in doesn't allow them to be stored on site.

That's more than we pay for a beautiful spot in a pole building here. Ouch!

He won't have his motorcycle with him this time since we have to haul a car. If we find an annual rental, we'll bring his cargo trailor next time. That sounds funny. Towing a motorcycle just to go riding. I guess they can be noisy, but he's too old to be revving the motor up on purpose. He'd have to go and get the cargo trailor out of storage (we stored it once when we took a three month rental) bring it back and load the motorcycle in it to go for a ride. I don't think he'll be interested in a community whee that will happen!

I'm not sure - but I think he'll have to take some kind of course to get a Florida motorcycle endorsement on his drivers' license (the new car drivers' license is pretty much automatic - except for an eye test - if he has a valid out of state license). Robyn

He'd better check. He's had several advanced safety courses in Michigan. No problem when he was riding a few years ago with a group, but no one asked.

He can take the Motorcycle Riders Safety Course and not have to take a test at the drivers license office or he can go to the drivers license office and take the test. It's a relatively easy test, if your proficient on a bike. And easier if you take it on a smaller bike (under 600cc's) Don't take the class or the test on a Ultra Classic unless your an extremely good cyclist. I took my test on a HD Sportster 900 and passed with no problems what so ever, but I had been riding almost 15 years by then. I'm not sure if the out of state motorcycle endoresment transfers over with a new Florida license.

He's been riding a lot and with the "obstacle course" classes I think he can pass a test easily. We will check when he brings his motorbike.

Here is a link to a directory of 55+ communities in FL. Communities are required to register with the state although I suspect there is nobody monitoring whether or not they have so there may be other communities not listed here. Good luck with your adventure! 55+ Communities / Home - Florida Commission on Human Relations

It's not gated (what's the point of a gate, byw?), but the Riverside & Avondale historic district, in Jacksonville, was highlighted by CNN a few years ago as great place to retire.

And info about the neighborhood: www.riverside-avondale.com
