I found another vietnamese restaurant. It is called Pho Cali. Located at 5624 Cagle Rd. (Get off at exit 345 of I-95...left onto Bowden...quick right onto Cagle...then it is on the left on Cagle...almost at University).

This place was a pleasant find. It was pretty crowded for lunch. It has a decent interior decor (Saigon Bistro is a much nicer atmosphere), but this place you could tell was run by immigrants and they have a full menu. They had 14 different types of pho and my friend said they serve it in large portions for only 6 bucks a bowl.

If you have never had vietnamese before, add it to your monthly diet. Take a night off from Applebees and drive down to Pho Cali. Try a bowl of pho and a spring roll.

I'd like to try it, but have never eaten Vietnamese food before. Fourteen kinds of pho? which should I try and how is it pronounced?

Pho is like a soup with a lot of broth. It comes with different ingredients - hence the fourteen kinds. Most of the ingredients are already in the broth but there are some meant to be added - these are usually sprouts, mint, basel and thinly sliced meat. The meat should be added to the hot broth early as that is how it cooks.

Dishes, like rolls which come with lettuce leaves and other vegetables are meant for everything to be wrapped in the leaves.

Vietnamese food can be spicy like Thai but most restaurants keep it tame for the American pallete.

If you get into eating Vietnamese food you won't be able to eat at Applebees, Longhorn Steakhouse, Chilis ......etc any more, their food will start to feel heavy and greasy.

oh yeh their in that Ramada Inn right off the freeway. Heard it's pretty good, comparable to Saigon Times, both long time local Pho place. Didn't hear any good things about Saigon Bistro besides its decoration was nice. It was expensive for it's small portions and selection was very limited.

Pho Cali was the first Vietnamese restaurant we tried when we first moved here. The decor was to be desired for and the location was "interesting" but the food was pretty good. I like Saigon Times better - Again, the location is "interesting" but I thought the portions was bigger than Pho Cali and I also felt I got more meat in my pho. Also, after eating, I like to walk two doors down and shop at the Vietnamese supermaket.
