Hi All, Do these subdivisions have any homes with pools? Would a budget of $375 get you a 4 bdrm resale home with a pool? We are looking to move to Florida and were looking in the Tampa area, but someone suggested to me to look into St. John's. I had researched this area a while ago, but I am sure a lot has changed. Any thoughts?

I'm sure you can find some 4BR pool homes in St Johns County for under 400K.

In some neighborhoods yes, In nocatee no. Good deals to be found further west on 210 and further south down 1. I have seen some in walden chase go for a good price too, though it's not my favorite neighborhood.

Any communities you all would recommend. So far on my list is:
Aberdeen
Julington creek plantation
Durbin Crossing

We are looking for good schools (especially Middle & HS), friendly neighborhood with lots of kids, convenient to shopping, restaurants etc.

I am finding that a lot of homes in the area do not have backyard pools. Why is this so? When we viewed the Tampa area we loved that most homes had pools. It is warm most of the year in Jax, correct?

Tampa is hotter and has a longer pool season. We noticed the same thing.

My thoughts are that the neighborhood pools are so nice, especially the Nocatee Splash park, I don't feel the need to put one in my backyard. Personally, I also don't want the responsibility and liability of watching other people's children around water. I'd rather my kids be able to meet all their friends at the neighborhood pools.

While i agree a community pool is fun for a while, we think living in florida a pool in our backyard is a must! There's nothing like waking up and just going for a quick swim in your own yard. My kids are teens and are great swimmers and won't be having friends in the pool unless we are there to supervise, so we aren't worried about that. How long is the pool season in Jax? I was hoping to use it most of the year. Does anyone know how must it cost in that area to put a decent size pool in with a screen? Do a lot of new home builders there offer pool packages?

Pool 40k, screen 15k, heater 5k, spa 10-15k(incl heater). These are actual prices I got in the last few months. Non heated pool 8 months of the year depending on your tolerance. Screened non heated pool 3-4 degrees cooler. All builders offer pool packages. Cheaper to do when house is being built.
