As for getting worked up,, listen I totally get it, everything can change in the next 3-4 days but why wait when you can book something for free and cancel on Friday. I'd rather be prepared than be sh** out of luck with no where to go. Don't know where you live but we're a mile off the beach with the intercoastal few blocks away.

Believe me, I've been all over the GEFS, EPS AND GEPS model ensembles with every 00z, 06z, 12z, 18z runs and they don't look great.
My sentiments exactly...

We are a block off the beach and we are booking rooms west of 95 also as we only have two bridges which both close at winds of 45 MPH.

As I have said in another post, people evacuating from south Florida will be moving towards northeast Florida as rooms get booked causing those here who waited having to drive further west to find lodging. This happened in the late nineties and we did not have the population we have now.

Let's hope this takes a hard turn to the open Atlantic.

Is NE Florida safe from this thing, though?

Rooms at decent hotels are going fast. Valdosta GA sold out. They told us to go look at Tifton, GA. They're sold out as well. Nothing decent in Lake City.

Settled on Gainesville. 48 hour cancellation policy so we have until Friday to cancel.

If you live ANYWHERE in the state of Florida, get prepared. As other posters have stated, hotel rooms are already filling. If you wait too long, you may have to deal with long lines at gas stations, grocery stores, etc., and heavy traffic from those heading out of state. Monitor the latest advisories and warnings that could be issued for your area.

We were able to book a room in Albany, Ga with a 24 hr cancellation. One of my son's lives in Albany so it's convenient for us.

We also booked in Albany and will cancel by Saturday evening if things are looking better. I just don't have a great feeling about this one. Maybe all of the Houston stuff has me spooked.

By all means I am not a weatherman or claim to know anything about weather............but it seems so impossible that Irma could abruptly take a right turn and head up through the center of the state as a few forecasts are predicting.

11:00 AM update show winds at 180 MPH.........South Florida is not looking good right now especially the Keys.

And yet that is the exact model/path I am seeing right now on the Weather Channel. Ugh.
