I don't believe the Kernan area qualifies as a nice quiet older section of Jacksonville. Nice maybe, quiet maybe, older definitely not.

Sorry folks, I have to disagree, I've been here one week and had 3 phone calls for interviews already. I do office work and my salary range is $15-18 per hour. I am applying on Craigslist and Jaxjobs and having awesome luck!

[quote=Dappleganger;8525023]Do not move to FL unless you both already have local jobs. The people who have lived here a long time already have a hard enough time finding employment which pays a decent salary. Things are getting worse, not better around here.[/QUOT

Totally agree with this. Additionally, if you are from NY and Chicago ... this area is MUCH less exciting, and far less sophisticated.. shopping, restaurants etc.... that you take for granted will be in any decent city...are not. We've been here 3 years and its a major adjustment. We were deciding at the time between Jax and Tampa/St Petes. Definitely made the wrong choice. They have better shopping, jobs, restaurants and still have beautiful white sand beaches. The people are much more sophisticated as well. Jacksonville is very much a churchy redneck town. While there are transplants here in pockets, there is a lot of ignorance that can be mind blowing. Tampa/St Petes is much more dynamic and has better cultural offerings and museums etc. As someone else said, the same can be said for Orlando. However, Orlando is inland so no beach and lots of inflated prices and traffic there due to all the tourism of Disney and Universal.

Some people are just never happy with what's available to them. Makes one wonder what exactly were their reasons for moving here in the first place, without doing any investigating what so ever.
