I finally did manage to find a company that treats me well after 3 years of trying. On the other hand, I am keenly aware that if anything were to happen to that job I'd better pray for a govt job or quit the field entirely rather than work for permatemp @hole companies like Pepsi or Abbott Labs/Abvie. After what I experienced from companies I feel no moral obligations to them at all. I've seen more ethical behaviour from convicts.
The US might be pushing for more scientists, but the majority of students are not entering top programs. My university is not even a top 10 school in Chemistry, but almost everyone is able to get a job.
OP stated he has worked there for 2 months already. I have never heard of a company doing background checks after you've been there that long....Weird.
I know some high turn-over places that do this, that way they are not wasting money on a background check of someone who ends up working there for two weeks and quits.
Really, if someone told me they worked at their parents' cafe, the first thing I would think the position was not big of a deal. Probably worked 3 days a month or something, and by worked, a few hours at the counter or wiping tables. Not saying that's the case.
Most likely your parents will cover for you. Probably because they don't want you to have to move back home. It's in their best interest that you be employed.

So really, they employer probably doesn't care.
Unless he lied about the position to the point that he said he managed the cafe or something. I could see him putting himself down as a higher level employee considering he is so close to the day to day business considering his parents involvement. I am doubtful that he put himself down as something as simple as a barista.
call your parents and tell them exactly what you wrote and make sure that they vouch for you. that's it.
they likely won't ask for paycheck stubs and tax returns and things like that.
...and don't do this again.
Everyone seems so sure that the parents will be comfortable with this. I can tell you that my parents would not have lied for me and I wouldn't do it for my own kid. I taught them better, and they would just have to suffer the natural consequences of their unethical behaviour. Lesson learned.
Why wouldn't your parents cover for you to get a job or even tell you to put their business down as a employer you had or are currently with? I would do it!
