LOL, thanks.
What do you make of my potential boss wanting me to do a phone call with HIS boss?!
This isn't even *that* high of an editor position for all this!
I think they're making you jump through hoops because A.) They know most people will jump through their hoops and B.) Because they've convinced themselves that they're such a great company to work for, that people should want to take all their B.S. in hopes of getting a job with their company.
Just one of many reasons I hate corporate America.
Stop and think. Would this persons boss waste his time on a call saying you didn't get the job? No. It's possible the hiring manager wants, or needs, his boss to sign off on the hire so he's having a quick call with you.
Feel free to ask these questions of the other people here - most are very helpful and most know what they're talking about.
I do like people to learn about how to think things through, so if you worked for me, I would ask that you post the scenario, tell me what you think, and then I'll tell you what I think. Otherwise, people get into a habit of not thinking and just asking.
There is no common or normal thing when it comes to the hiring process. That's one of the reasons we cannot make predictions with any accuracy about what the outcome will be.
LOL, thanks.

This happened to me last week for an internal position I ended up getting. Unless there is something really different about our two cases, the interview with the higher up is intended to judge your likability, etiquette, and interest in the position as related to your career goals. In my case I was told that it was a "rubber stamp" deal but I still took it very seriously. If you do the same, your chances are good. After that last phone interview I had two days of absolute radio silence but the day after that I got the good word.
Thanks, span! Hoping it goes well and I hear something tomorrow or Friday, after Christmas!
And the editor (who would be my boss) just looked at my LinkedIn profile this morning...
And Koko, it's called not using cap and punctuation properly in an informal setting like this - gimme a break.
Wish me luck, all! Thanks for all your support!
