I agree.. but can't he at least keep me in the loop or say "Hey, we're planning to offer you the job...."
MPowering - I was OK to email him, just to say 'just checking in, please let me know if you need anything else/have some kind of timeline for a decision,' right?
Thanks again. I guess if I don't get the offer, maybe I didn't want to work there in the first place?
There are many companies you may still want to work for even if you don't get the offer. And just because you don't get into a company today doesn't mean you won't get into that company tomorrow.
If you don't get the offer, you don't get the offer, and something else will come up.
If I were you, I'd keep looking though. If nothing else, it keeps your mind off of stressing about this one.
I would be extremely surprised if anyone receives a job offer between now and the week of January fifth.
I wouldn't be. They're running ads and interviewing and people are being hired. They may prolong the start date, but if a company wants to hire someone they'd be foolish to delay the offer.
You can't say with certainty that there is now silence. Maybe the person you emailed was sick or took a vacation day. Maybe they were off-site having a Christmas party. Too soon to say you were met with silence.
And again, it looks very promising that you were asked for references and that those were called, but we've seen people go through the same drill only to hear nothing in the end. That's why I've said all along, we cannot know for sure what the outcome will be, only that it looks promising.
There is no more certainty we can give you. Just put it out of your mind and continue looking for a job. There are a lot of opportunities being advertised right now from what I hear. Take advantage of that.
Look at it this way, either you will get the job or you will not. And in 100 years, all of this will probably be inconsequential. I hope they're one hell of a good company to work for, because if they're not, I'm sure you can find another employer who's just as good if not better and who will be more respectful of your time. Good luck!
