Spectra....Hello....
I was going to ignore this post and move on to something with more meat to it but then I realized you need my input.
Read this again:
"I'm interviewing other candidates for the position, ....."
The agency recruiter has just told you two things and only one has value:
1. He is sending in additional candidates for the same job. Which means, as the Regulars here will affirm, he does not care if you get the job or if one of the other people he sends in gets the job.
So, he is not your friend, he is an employment agency recruiter who wants to earn his commission.
That he was at least truthful about his sending in competitors who want the same job is a small point in his favor although, if you are going to work with employment agencies, know that all of them (and us headhunters, too) do the same thing- we present a minimum of three candidates and the client chooses from amongst our three. We send three to improve the odds in our favor of the client hiring from us.
2. "...but my client seemed really interested in meeting you..."
Puh-Leeze! Gag me with a spoon!
Now, if he had said what in particular about your background the client liked, there could be merit to his saying this but know -and this is why I am here, posting this- that all employment agency people say the same thing.
They encourage you so you put all your eggs in their basket, do not apply at any other companies and speak with no other agencies since you are under the impression you stand a good chance of getting hired where the agency recruiter told you this nonsense.
..................
And now, here you are at C-D, asking if you are going to be asked back, all Nervous Nelly.
Regardless of how important this job may be, regardless of your personal situation, it is critical you stay neutral until you are called back for an interview.
Otherwise, if you either don't hear back -a common occurrence- or are told the job was filled by someone else, you will crash and burn emotionally.
Job searching is a laborious and step-by-step process and it is important you put some perspective to what you are doing or your emotions will be roller coaster, up and down, each day.
That is my point, Spectra. No one here can tell you if you will be called back and you should not find it necessary to come here and ask for opinions on this. You either will or you won't, based on several factors, some in your control, most not.
So hereafter, as you apply and apply and apply, keep an even keel during this process or as I said, you will wear yourself out.
The key to winning in this job search game is to apply, apply and apply. Use at least two if not three employment agencies, make sure your resume looks the best it can and have great references.
One step at a time, Spectra. Manage your energy. Be enthusiastic without draining yourself.
