I had an interview with a staffing agency yesterday that went pretty smoothly. I was told he would speak with his client to get a date for a meeting with them. He called today and said that he'd know by tomorrow what was going to happen and that "I'm interviewing other candidates for the position, but my client seemed really interested in meeting you". so now i'm a nervous wreck again wondering whether or not i'll get that second interview.

You'll know when you know. Sadly we don't have a crystal ball. Good luck!

Spectra....Hello....

I was going to ignore this post and move on to something with more meat to it but then I realized you need my input.

Read this again:

"I'm interviewing other candidates for the position, ....."

The agency recruiter has just told you two things and only one has value:

1. He is sending in additional candidates for the same job. Which means, as the Regulars here will affirm, he does not care if you get the job or if one of the other people he sends in gets the job.

So, he is not your friend, he is an employment agency recruiter who wants to earn his commission.

That he was at least truthful about his sending in competitors who want the same job is a small point in his favor although, if you are going to work with employment agencies, know that all of them (and us headhunters, too) do the same thing- we present a minimum of three candidates and the client chooses from amongst our three. We send three to improve the odds in our favor of the client hiring from us.

2. "...but my client seemed really interested in meeting you..."

Puh-Leeze! Gag me with a spoon!

Now, if he had said what in particular about your background the client liked, there could be merit to his saying this but know -and this is why I am here, posting this- that all employment agency people say the same thing.

They encourage you so you put all your eggs in their basket, do not apply at any other companies and speak with no other agencies since you are under the impression you stand a good chance of getting hired where the agency recruiter told you this nonsense.

..................

And now, here you are at C-D, asking if you are going to be asked back, all Nervous Nelly.

Regardless of how important this job may be, regardless of your personal situation, it is critical you stay neutral until you are called back for an interview.

Otherwise, if you either don't hear back -a common occurrence- or are told the job was filled by someone else, you will crash and burn emotionally.

Job searching is a laborious and step-by-step process and it is important you put some perspective to what you are doing or your emotions will be roller coaster, up and down, each day.

That is my point, Spectra. No one here can tell you if you will be called back and you should not find it necessary to come here and ask for opinions on this. You either will or you won't, based on several factors, some in your control, most not.

So hereafter, as you apply and apply and apply, keep an even keel during this process or as I said, you will wear yourself out.

The key to winning in this job search game is to apply, apply and apply. Use at least two if not three employment agencies, make sure your resume looks the best it can and have great references.

One step at a time, Spectra. Manage your energy. Be enthusiastic without draining yourself.

Paul.......

In my opinion. Every interview ends with them telling you or implying that they will select you or are very interested. It's gotten to the point, where it doesn't mean any thing any more to me. Just keep applying and if they call they call if not well at least you didn't waste your time thinking about it.

Give it a week and send a follow up email next Wednesday to see if you will get the second interview. Maybe you will get a response before next wednesday and you can use the weekend to prepare for the next interview.

I'm so confused with the staffing agent. The ones I've dealt with act as intermediaries between you and the employer, why is he doing the interviewing? I mean the staffing agents that got assigned to me by the company only dealt with me, and acted as my handler, and didn't mess with finding other people, he already had a number of people that he managed. He was our go to person for setting up bank roll, finding us housing (since we didn't know the area we are assigned to), set up the interviews directly with company (gave my resume/skill list to them and if they wanted me, they called him and he worked out time for me to phone interview with them) but then stepped out of picture until he was contacted again. But this was when I was working travel assignments in the past for the staffing agency.

I don't think you've had a first interview yet -- just a screening with a 3rd party recruiter.
