Depends on your view of Torah and of women in general I believe.
I believe in egalitarianism, especially in a worship setting. I believe that it is Freudian projection that caused the rift between men and women praying together in Shul (a man finds that he cannot pray in Shul due to being distracted by women in his section, rather than coming to terms with that and integrating his issue into his psyche, he would rather women be separatedin Shul by a mechitza).
I believe it is stupid for only Men to be able to read and recite Aliyot for Torah in Shul. I also do not understand why a Jewish female would not be counted for a Minyan in Orthodoxy.
I do tend to agree with the Orthodox opinion of women not wearing/laying kippot, tefillin, or tallitot. Not a huge deal for me though.
Are you sure you all can judge? Maybe you should ask Iwish, as the lone Orthodox women participating in this forum.
As for my opinion, I am deeply offended any if you would think I treat my wife like a second class citizen. I'll hold back the rest of my thoughts to avoid a chilul hashem.
I am not Jewish, but aren't there other, less stringent segments of Judaism if a woman feels stifled by Orthodoxy?
I am guessing that, even in a conservative atmosphere, the Orthodox wife/mother still rules the roost most of the time.
I think the ultra-Orthodox view that women are not only exempt but are FORBIDDEN from learning gemara and the rest of the Oral Torah (beyond halacha l'maaseh: practical laws) is definitely second-class status. This disempowers women from protesting against unjust treatment, because their opponents can defend themselves with their interpretation of Jewish law while women are...just women, what do they know?
This is a opinion question and not a Hashem judgement question. Please don't attempt to send this thread into a direction other than the OP has stated (it could have been worded better, but most of us understand the query).
