How long do you guys wait between having meat and dairy. My gf will have meat for dinner but she loves ice cream. She will have it every night before going to bed, usually an hour or two after dinner.
What's the official verdict?
Here's a belated reply.
Sephardim wait 1 hour before eating milky food and after eating meat - which is why many Dutch do that. Ashkenazim wait five or six hours after meat. In England many keep Minhag Anglia which is to wait three hours. I do that. But after clear meat broth some say you don't have to wait but just rinse your mouth. After milk you just have to rinse your mouth and then you can have meat, but if it's hard cheese most opinions say you have to wait a while.
Peace between husband and wife is such an important Jewish value that IMO you are right not to bug your girlfriend. However, there are some really good milk-free "ice-cream" desserts available in supermarkets these days. Generally, if a person really wants to observe a mitzvah, a way opens up for them.
