Hello, I am very interested to hear more about your opinion. I am not trying to put you on the spot or anything but I am not familiar with the KC metro area and am trying to get all the information I can since I am moving with my children and husband there this august.

Can you tell more about what's specifically wrong with city living there for kids? I would appreciate your candor.

I'm not really interested in hearing more of this poster's opinion - with the ignorance of the last post, I can't imagine that anything posted on this subject would be valid.

I was raised in the city. My wife was raised in the city. We would not even consider for a moment raising our children in the suburbs. There is nothing wrong with raising children in KC.

Wow. You are painting with a very broad brush if you think "everyone" wants to settle down, raise a family, and move to the suburbs when they advance to a certain age. Many people do not want that kind of lifestyle.

And it's certainly not "best." It's just an option. Nothing more, nothing less.

The only thing I mean is that the suburbs are so close to the city/urban setting, that you can live in a nice suburb, good schools, low taxes, low crime, and raise a family in a traditional family setting, and still be close enough to the city and urban area to experience the fun aspects of Kansas City.

I would suggest the golden triangle in Fairway. Great urban feel within the Shawnee Mission School District. Plus Miege and Pembroke are near by as private alternatives.

Where is the golden triangle exactly? Is it bordered by any particular streets?

Fairway is nice, but how is it "urban"? I would consider Fairway to be very much suburban. Even brookside leans more suburban and it has more urban traits than Fairway.

Don't want to pile on, but wow. KC is not the best city for urban families, but thousands of middle class families choose the city over the suburbs. I know lots of people that love living in central kcmo and raised thier kids there. I was born and raised in the city as well and would not trade it for anything.

^And I was raised in the suburbs and you couldn't pay me to raise my kids in a similar environment. The idea of it being "cruel" to do so is absolutely laughable and the idea of saying that under the moniker "lovekcmo" is even more asinine.

That said, no, Fairway isn't the most urban place in the world, but the housing stock is lovely, the school situation significantly easier to navigate and there is a real sense of community, in addition to being just minutes from the Plaza. Not a terrible place to consider at all.
