According to the New Harmony web site, not one house has been sold.

Neither have any lots been sold.

Anyone been by this site on east Truman Road lately?
That is not on my usual route to anywhere. The County recorder of deeds does not show any individuals owning any of the lots, just banks and builders.

Was glad to see it had been renewed for a 5th year. Recall, this was the Sharon Kinne episode from last year (S. 4, Ep. 2, Dec. 2016) The first episode is about the Clutter Family murders/In Cold Blood. Which has a KC connection. I imagine it will be repeated during the week.

I've set the DVR to record all, including repeats. I've watched the Kinne saga several times. I also find the Kitty Genovese (Bystander Effect), Texas Tower mass shooting, the 8 student nurses in Chicago, and the Looking for Mr Goodbar inspiration stories to be of most interest.

Well worth your time historically and culturally if anyone's interested.
I watched the Clutter family episode, last night.

Little Beaver was not in it though (just joking, Robert Blake--Little Beaver--Red Ryder's sidekick)

I was by the area a couple days ago. Look's like they are working on a spec. house. I sure would not want to live in that area. I know they say it is a 100 year flood plane, but I have seen it under water way too often in my lifetime.

In that respect, I wonder if the mortgage holders will require flood insurance?

According to the city's comprehensive plan, Truman Road is to be upgraded and designated Truman Boulevard between New Harmony and the square.

I have not found anything on the proposed treatment of Truman to turn it into a Boulevard.

I did find a plan for Highway 24/Independence Avenue that was completed last year and is intended to go from the bridge to Sterling. No implementation date is targeted.

The road way is to be rebuilt 136 feet wide as follows:

Sidewalk, 8.5’
Bike Lane, 5’
Shrubbery, Light poles, 6’
Parking Lane, 8’
Turn Lane, 11’
Drive Lane, 11’
Drive Lane, 11’
Median, 5’
Drive Lane, 11’
Drive Lane, 11’
Turn Lane, 11’
Shrubbery, light poles, 6’
Bike lane, 5’
Sidewalk, 8.5’

The current Huttig Intersection with 24 will be eliminated. Huttig is to be rerouted a block or so north to run into US 24 with a roundabout just east of the bridge.

The Ash west intersection with 24 will not end but will continue through by demolishing one of the buildings on the north side of the street.

The Ash dog leg east intersection with 24 will be eliminated.

Crisp lake is included for clean up in the plan but the narration seems to say that no one knows who owns it. The plan also says the lake was created by a railroad for steam engine water.

The cost seems to currently be short of $9m, which seems optimistic. By the time it is implemented, that would probably be double, chuckle.

Speaking of infamous crimes, I just learned an interesting bit of trivia.

What is the Independence connection to the Manson murders?

Max Baer Jr, (Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies) took Sharon Tate as his date to one of the Emmy Awards. Sharon had auditioned for Petticoat Junction, and was nearly signed to play one of the three daughters. However, she was dropped when it was revealed she had posed for semi-nude photos. Paul Henning, who grew up in Independence, was the creator of both shows.

I read an interesting article the other day . . probably was on Wikipedia . . .about how CBS changed its focus from (successful) "rural" basis programs (e.g. BHB, Green Acres, Gomer Pyle, Andy Griffith, Westerns, Lawrence Welk, etc) that appealed to older, rural/suburban viewers, to more "modern" younger-appealing" programming (e.g., All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore). I believe it was described as the "Rural Purge" Since many of the programs were long-lived and highly rated, there was a battle within the executive ranks, with some of the programs getting a makeover, while others were just dropped in the midst of their popularity.

CBS led the way and the others eventually followed.
