Someone might have said on here once before that Van Horn plays in their own stadium. A view of that field shows it to be in good condition but there seems to be little seating.

They have also added a soccer field next to the new Chrisman stadium.

There is a softball field directly east of the old track that was there in the fifties. Directly east of the softball field was also filled in, I think.

Until Truman got lights on their football field, whenever they were playing Chrisman and it was Truman's home game, the Truman fans would sit on "our" side.

I just looked at Truman's field so does that mean they all have their own field for their games? Does not appear to be much seating, though.

This is a spiel from The Examiner about Norman James, the individual after whom the football field at WCHS is named:

"The community representative of this year’s class is Norman James, the Independence School District athletic director from 1964 to 1983. The field at Independence All-School Stadium is named after him. He was the state Athletic Director of the Year in 1975. He received the Missouri State High School Activities Association’s Distinguished Service Award in 1981."

I had a "run in" with Norman James in 1956/57 in the first month of my first year at Chrisman. I thought he was trying to make himself out as a really tough and stern individual, and my opinion of him really soured. I want to say that 1956, was his first year at Chrisman, also, but I am not sure about that.

He was also the football team coach in 1958 and 59 and afterward.

I just had one other thought thinking about the fifties:

I graduated from WCHS in 1959. One year earlier, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, discontinued the use of mules to carry artillery pieces into mountain battle. Six mules carried individual pieces of one 75mm pack howitzer to its destination.
