I mean the 8th pic up from the bottom. Probably plaza from Seville. It is very moorish looking, which is why it looks a bit like a mosque. I see the other one that is probably a church. I am interested in Orthodox churches and mosques (my husband was raised Russian orthodox, my daughter was born in a Muslim country) and haven't seen any in KC so I was just curious.
The tiled one 8th from the bottom is the Country Club Plaza. The gold dome the 15th pic up is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown. I've attended Mass there. It is Catholic.

Sorry about the double post from W Bottoms thread but wanted to get these pics into this thread while I have the involved link setup.

This is the W Bottoms, an old industrial warehouse/railyard district on W side of downtown. Most buildings are 1880s-1920s with only a handful around 1950 or so.

Took these this morning (Saturday, Feb 4). Was pretty busy, with foodie trucks and many people about for a cool Saturday afternoon, which was surprising given it was misty, gloomy and fairly cold (40s'). There are a lot more antique shops now than I recall from last time. I'd guess there are 25-35 or so gallery/antique type spaces now in W Bottoms and becoming a nice secondary arts district to Xroads, which has about 60-80 spaces depending on what you call an art space.

Frankly I think W Bottoms and Xroads are better than DUMBO and Williamsburgh in Brooklyn, which have become too sanitised/gentrified.

Wonderful pics! Thank you! My daughter just graduated from KU, and is working in KCMO now. I visit her often and enjoy discovering more of KC with each visit.

Thank you for sharing such great pics! It's so wonderful to see West Bottoms doing so well. I love KC and miss it and often consider returning, but I love my Ozarks life too.

^There's another project going in W Bottoms that gives 'bottomers' mixed feelings. As more commercial projects occur, the more likely artists will be pushed out as what happened to Xroads. Would like to see commercial development focus on Xroads and fill in those gaps before focusing on W Bottoms.

Firms round up plan for Kansas City's West Bottoms - Kansas City Business Journal

Quote:
“A lot of the art studios that used to be in the Crossroads District are coming down here because the costs were becoming too prohibitive for them in the Crossroads,” Monahan said. “We lease to some artists but mainly to manufacturer’s reps and small medical businesses. You can’t beat this area’s proximity to the expressways, and there’s lots of room to grow.”
Will likely repeat itself if W Bottoms continues to attract developers. I don't think developers should be discouraged from W Bottoms but Xroads really needs the infill first.

Thinking from another thread... do the West Bottoms pics above look like a crappy dump to you or cool functional grit?
