We are considering a move to Parkville, MO. It appears to be directly south of the Kansas City airport, so I wonder if there is a lot of aircraft noise & such. BTW, by Parkville, I mean downtown Parkville and West over toward I-435. Also, the Thousand Oaks subdivision looks very nice on paper. Any advice there?

I use to live near there and you dont notice anything. Planes are still high enough at that point that you dont hear them much or atleast that was my experience.

I do not believe that location (Parkville) will be much of an issue regarding aircraft noise. I currently live in a complex on Barry Road (about 2.5 miles east of Zona Rosa/I-29) and hear planes landing/taking off all the time.

This is probably the case because one of the most frequently used runways is situated in an approximate E-W direction and hence the resultant overflights. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that there is a N-S runway (might be NE-SW) as well. However, as the previous poster stated, Parkville does appear to be far enough away from the airport.

I agree with the others, it’s pretty much a non issue. You notice the planes (at least you will at first), but you barely hear them. I used to live just north of Parkville in the Platte Woods area and so I was in the area you speak of often. I’m also a frequent flyer and know what the flight patterns are.

It’s a different story up north of 152. There are some baseball parks north of 152 and east of 435 and the planes get pretty low there. Even then, it’s not near as bad as some airports are when they are landlocked in urban areas. But Parkville wouldn’t be a problem at all.

Thousand Oaks is nice, I think the homes in that area average 700k or so. Must be nice!

Check out the Bluffs and Riss Lake as well since you are into the higher end stuff. The Bluffs are awesome.

Good luck.

I live by Parkville and never hear any planes. We see them all the time but never any noise.

Does anyone know where you might get a contour map that shows the flight noise - DB levels? I can remember getting one many years ago in MN because we were looking at homes near the airport but I don't remember where we got it. Now days I'm thinking maybe something available on line but so far I've not found one for KC.

I've looked at houses in Thousand Oaks - there are lots of them at prices way lower than $700K. They seem nice but they are way too close together for my taste. There are some places with bigger lots in Platte County but I've wondered about the aircraft noise too.

Trust me, aircraft noise is not really an issue in KC.

We used to live about 20 miles NW of O'Hare Airport in the Chicago area and sometimes we were really in a repeating flight path. The noise is easy to get used to. What was really creepy was the silence in the week following the 9-11 attacks. I was so happy when I heard planes overhead again.

Exactly.

Trains are a much bigger concern than planes. They makes 10x more noise.
