I walked ALL OVER Lawrence, up and down hills. Lived very close to The Wheel and not far from the Hawk. Other than classes, walked down to Mass Street a lot. Walked to 23rd a lot. Walked down Naismith a lot. I don't know what the criteria were or are for scholarship hall admission. I just know my parents weren't rich, and my grades were good, and I got in. There were kids of policemen and kids of military officers and kids of teachers who were in the scholarship halls that I know of offhand, so I don't think you had to be downright destitute or anything to get in.

KU is a nice place. The weather sucks but other than that it is a great place to spend some years in.
