Asians wish that white people would stay out of their supermarkets because it increases demand for certain items and hence raises the prices for the rest of us. I say this only half jokingly.
I am assuming you are Caucasian... does your Asian boyfriend ask you to stay out of the supermarket when he goes shopping?
While Portland is quite "White" it isn't anywhere near 94% White.
And us whities really like our Asian supermarkets and PF Changs.

I was originally taken aback by your gruff and sarcastic answers here on the Island threads..but you do seem pretty savvy as to what is going on for the relatively few years that you have lived on Oahu.

If it hasn't made it to your island - a "few" (of 8 years) isn't a matter of perspective by any definition or legal standard.
Try surfing sometime. Bump into someone. Say - hey, I just got here a few years ago - you know - 8 years now - and I didn't know the etiquette (if they know that word).

An old friend of mine, Walter Nakama, born on Maui in 1937. We talk story sometimes, he's got a
LOT of years on me. I'm kind of a new comer to him, and I've lived here since 1975. Do the math Viper, wrap your head around that equation.
Of course, I know some folks who've been here for years, and still don't have a clue.
my total combined months spent on Oahu and Kauai over the last 37 years equal more than 8 years..
my brother has been there since 1980, my Uncle since 1969..
even they barely consider themselves Kama'aina..
Just wondering with you sarcastic attitude about everything and everybody ( especially the people less fortunate financially than you) did you pick Oahu to live?
Maybe you need the Dictionary...or perhaps just Google 'Aloha Spirit' .. it might be an enlightening revelation for you.
I left Kauai 35 years ago for a higher education and the jobs outlook. In a way, I think it was the best thing that I did. On the other hand, I was born & raised on the Westside, which is my foundation & base (or as others here say: "Your people"), and will always be home. I go back every 10 years or so, people still remember me (and how kolohe I was). Now I live in the countryside (boonies) in the Midwest. In its own particular way, my current residence reminds me of the Kauai I remember: cool, woodsy and hilly like Kokee, hot & humid in the summer like the Westside, stores in town close early at 5:00 p.m. and the streets mostly empty out, easy going very friendly people, wide spaces, too many places. The single differential: 99% haole. Get me and five popolo families that I know of in the county, as it! It's okay with me as I treat people on how they treat me and for most of these 35 years, its been all good!
One thing get gets my gander up is the overall condition of Hawaii, in general, as compared to the mainland. To put it bluntly, Hawaii pilau: the restrooms and gov't facilities are dirty and stink, the parks are in ill repair, a lot of things are broken and in need of repair or replacement. I'm not sure of what pilikia is going on in Hawaii, especially Honolulu, but it saddens me a lot. What really gets me is the condition of the State parks; at one time, I considered them to be the best in the nation, on par with the Federal park system. Now, there is no comparison...very, very sad!
Anyway, e malama pono!
P.S. although I may write adequately, brah, wen I talk, I neva wen lose my pidgin. Sometimes throw the buggahs hea off, LOL!!!
