[quote=jcm1986;4997750]Well, do you think Tennessee is worth a whole lot? I prefer it over Kentucky, but I can think of about 25 states I would choose to live over "Rocky Top" country--Georgia, N. Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, New York (NYC or its metro only), Wyoming, etc., all for various odd reasons.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me give you a little news flash here, you can name as many states as you like, but if you think you can find any state in the lower 48 that don't have areas like KY.... the ones you call "dumpy little redneck towns" then you are fooling yourself big time. As for NYC, how many buroughs of the Big Apple have you spent time in? Ever stayed over night in the Bronx? There's parts of NYC much worse than any town you will find in KY.

I traveled the lower 48 weekly for 35 years, I think when you leave KY and live in different parts of the country you are going to get a lot of surprises. It's a good thing to leave KY and explore other areas of the country, once you've done that I think you will realize that KY is not so bad after all... you just might begin to appreciate where you came from. Good luck in your travels.

Define alternative.

Seriously, define it in this case.
No, seriously. You don't have to italicize alternative. It's the only other word in your sentence, so I know what you're getting at.

Define alternative? I'll let Richard Florida do that for you.

Hi everyone! So many of the posts that I read are from others asking about larger cities in KY, such as Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, etc. Wow! To me, these are gigantic metropolises. NOT for me! I know that they have tons of energy, culture, excitement, entertainment, and shopping, plus a whole lot more, but I don't want those things. I want a quiet little sit-on-the-front-porch-and-rock-away country home, where I can raise chickens, ducks, and goats, have good neighbors, be a good neighbor and not have to worry about crime or criminals, on 10 to 20 acres of level to VERY gently rolling fields/woods, that must have a spring/spring-fed pond/creek; all this in a town that cares about it's appearance, and be clean and attractive to visitors. (A big city to me is anyplace that has over 5,000 residents.) So please, native Kentuckians, I'm asking for help from those of you who understand what I'm so ineptly trying to state! Am I trying to find something that doesn't exist? Will those of you who are familiar with Harrison County, tell me where I will find the aforementioned criteria? I chose Harrison County because it is central to our families that live in TN, OH, and WV. Thanks to all of you who reply!
