Yes, but unfortunately, as good as you are, you are not a reliable source. Where did you get those scores? I would like to see the site sourced directly. Furthermore, I am not sure if CATS scores are the one and only variable I'd use to rank scores, and then make a thread saying, the "best schools."

And yes, you left out the number two ranked county, Oldham. I still find it very hard to believe that Hancock? county KY has better schools than Oldham (note Hancock County is NOT Owensboro. Owensboro is Davies County)??

Also from Wikipedia regarding Hancock County. It is a very small completely rural, and fairly poor county. It is also 1/7 the population of Oldham:

The per capita income for the county was $16,623. About 11.40% of families and 13.60% of the population were below the poverty line, including 18.00% of those under age 18 and 15.80% of those age 65 or over.

And with all that is said and done, the BEST schools in the region reside in Jefferson County, if you want to use CATS scores strictly. I made a thread on that last year based on an article in Louisville Magazine.

Here is that old post of mine

Also, where are you getting this idea that Oldham schools are among the best in the nation? I have only seen one objective source compare national schools, and it was US News which looked at high schools. In those rankings, two Oldham schools were ranked in the top 1200, but none were ranked anywhere as high as the three public schools from Louisville that got ranked.

The only objective way I have found to compare elementary schools in the metro area is with CATS scores. As a whole, Oldham schools are better than Louisville schools overall. However, the best schools with regards to CATS scores are STILL in Louisville. So, let me present once and for all the best 2007 CATS scores for elementary schools on the KY side of the metro area:

1: Greathouse/Shyrock 114 (Louisville)
2: Anchorage Independent 112 (independent school district located in Louisville)
3: Goshen 107.5 (Oldham)
4: Schaffner Traditional 105.9 (Louisville)
5: Liberty 104.4 (Oldham)
6: Audubon Traditional 102.8 (Louisville)
7: Norton 102.2 (Louisville)
8: Wilder 101.2 (Louisville)
8: Lowe 101.2 (Louisville)
10: Buckner 101.0 (Oldham)

Cats Index description: All Kentucky schools are evaluated each year by the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System. The CATS index is based mostly on student scores on the Kentucky Core Content Tests in math, science, reading, and other subjects. A small part of the CATS index is dervied from a school's attendance, retention, and dropout rates. A Cats index of 100 would indicate that the schools has reached the state's goal of overall proficiency.

So, it's easy to see that 70% of the highest scoring elementary schools ( the ones with CATS index's above 100) are STILL in Jefferson County. Louisville has some very bad schools; but the best schools are the BEST in the region--at every level. And to answer the OP's question, there are no schools in Bullit with a Cats over 100, but there are some fine schools with Cats in the 90's, just like there are in Oldham and Jefferson.

I would be very careful getting any reliable info from wikipedia as well. It says covington catholic high school in NKY has its' football field on top of an active volcano and they play football during volcano season. Look it up if you don't believe me. Wikipedia then type in covington catholic high school and read it. Anyone can put things in wikipedia so to use them as a source is just as bad as what you were blasting census for.

It wouldn't surprise me if it says that because we all know how Wikipedia is, you have to be skeptical when reading stuff on that site.

I had a friend who was giong to UofL who couldn't even cite Wikipedia as a source for any of her papers because of it being to unreliable. It is good most of the time but how do you know when it isn't?

Here is another site that does school rankings and district rankings for any state.

www.schooldigger.com

If you do not include the independent schools, here is how this site ranks the school districts.

1. Hancock County
2. Graves County
3. Daviess County
4. Oldham County
5. McCracken County
6. Rockcastle County
7. Russell County
8. Marion County
9. Mulhenberg County
10. Marshall County
11. Monroe County
12. Boone County
13. Green County
14. Whitley County
15. Johnson County

Even though Louisville and Lexington have some of the top schools in the state, there are also several schools in the same city that score poorly and they bring down the district rank for those cities. If you look at the elementary schools in Louisville, you will find some top ranked schools in Louisville, but if you look at the 10 worst elementary schools in the state, five of them are in Louisville.

Also I went to a training in Louisville this summer and the presenter talked highly of Hancock County. I did not know that they were doing such a great job and that their scores were so high, but it must be true. The presenter was not from Hancock County either.
