Yeah, Kentucky is kind'a backwards. When the people of a state think their university exists for the purpose of fielding basketball teams, that's backwards. And when the guy who hands out the towels for that team dies and it's front page news for FOUR goddam days, that's backwards.

You are from Chicago. How many days was Harry Caray's death on the news up in Chicago? How many DEATH threats did the guy, Steve Bartman, who caught that foul ball recieve? Local sports are important in almost every locale, KY is not unique in that aspect. Just because you don't understand its importance, it doesn't mean that it is backwards. I think obsession with sports is a little backwards, but Kentucky does not have a corner on that market.

I see your point and agree: Cubs fans are backwards too.

As for myself, I think we may be dealing with a troll even though he has a post count that is over 1300.

The nightrider goes off to buy a case of Troll B Gone.

I just spent 2 days/nights at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park in eastern Kentucky. If there were an area of Kentucky that most outsiders would assume is backwards/regressive that would be it. But i saw none of that. The people at the park and the surrounding communities were helpful, intelligent and well spoken. I will absolutely be going back. Although the Appalachian area of Kentucky seemed a bit economically depressed, the good people of that area were anything but regressive or backward!

I think if we honestly look at our state, and depending on how you define "backwards", then we have more than just our fair share of problems.

By almost every economic, educational and health measurement, we are at or near the bottom. That's just a fact. It's a great state with great people and I've lived here all my life, but there is no question we are constantly behind most states in almost every category.

I think until we admit that, we can't change it.

Hi JVeillo, I only know you from the R&P forum, so I would like you to visit my part of Kentucky if you have never been here..We will treat you like family.. If being backward and regressive means returning to a time when everyone worried about their neighbors and offered help when they needed it, then I am proud to live here and thank God for bringing me and my family here from big cities that only cared about progressing into a giant corporations that cared little for family values and quality of life..Lots of the good folk were pulled into what I call the gotta have what the neighbor has, only bigger, better and more expensive. Their kids have to be in extra classes after school, or home alone because parents don't have any time for them in their busy work and social schedule...There are lots of family businesses here that provide a decent living for a family and parents have time to be with their kids and pass on family values..

The south in general is made fun of on the CT forum. They don't understand it so they make fun of it and put it down. I have lived all over NC and Georgia and parts of SC but I've only been uncomfortable one time around some young guys at a wholesale nursery I stopped at. It was a seen out of Deliverance and it happened two miles from my house in CT. These boys looked like they had never seen a woman or a shower. I left quickly. I've been to KY a lot due to my son at Ft Campbell and a lot of vacations and I've never run into anything that compared to that.
