Fish in Johnson City
Hey y'all,
I am from Miami and grew up eating fish a lot. My dad has a boat, and we would go out, catch fish, bring it home and eat it after it had only been dead like 5 hours. DELICIOUS!! My favorite fish is dolphin, partly because that is what we would usually catch, but I'll eat just about anything else. Florida Lobster is also one of my favorites. I'm SCUBA liscensed, and one of my favorite things in the whole world to do (Well, my favorite things that doesn't require me to be naked.) is to go SCUBA diving for lobster, because reefs are beautiful, the hunt is exciting, and then we take the lobster home and eat them and they are delicious. I am not that educated on fresh water fish. My dad, my brother and I ate a lot of rainbow trout in Idaho, but I was 12 and I don't really remember how it tasted. Actually, kinda funny. For 2 days, we ran out of food, and were so far out in the middle of nowhere we didn't know where a town was to find a shop to buy food, so we just caught fish and ate fish morning noon and night. But, I would not be opposed to eating some trout, bream, bass or other lake fish.
Opinions on lake fish vs ocean fish?
So, I am looking for a reliable place in Johnson City or the surronding area (Erwin, Elizabethton, Kingsport, Jonesbourough, etc. I mean, I'm not driving to Asheville or Knoxville for this.) where I can buy good fresh fish. I mean, Kroger and Food City sell fish, but I wanna know if they are reliably fresh, or if there is a better place. Maybe there is a place that has fish flown in fresh daily? Any help would be appreciated. This is one of the only things that I miss about Miami, because basically Miami sucks, but I miss the seafood.
Oh yeah, thought I might add for those of you uneducated in Marine Biology and think that I am a horrible person for eating dolphins. I'm not eating THOSE dolphins. There are two creatures that live in the sea and swim around and are called dolphins;
One is a mammal, that big grey thing that is a relative of whales and does flips and tricks and stuff at Sea World. I tried to put a picture, but I don't know how. That is why I've edited this.
The other is a fish, kind of green and purple, they are usually 20 or 30 pounds, but they can get to 80 pounds. In Hawaii it's called Mahi-mahi and in Spanish it's called Dorado. You may see these words on a menu or somewhere. Mahi is delicious. Again, I tried to put a picture. Just google mahi and you can see a picture of these fish. They are actually quite beautiful when they are swimming and the refraction of the light shimmers off their purple and green bodies, but they are more beautiful just off the grill with some seasoning.
So, anyways, anybody know a good place in JC to buy good fresh fish?
