Another TN city made the article too. This is good national publicity. However, see if you can catch the error that he missed.

That would seem to be an error. I also think we have a larger employer than ETSU, but I'm not sure.

The error I saw though was more geographic in nature.

Your right! hahahaha, I went back and read it...we are in North EAST TN, not west
And I too think MSHA employs more than ETSU, actually I think MoreFlow (American Water Heater) employs more than ETSU too, but I could be wrong there also.

Over 1,000 are employed at the American Water Heater plant. I've heard it mentioned as JC's largest employer.

MSHA has approximately 6500 total employees with about 3500 of those in JC. ETSU has around 2000 employees, while American Water Heaters and the VA Medical Center have about 1200 employees.

The author was probably referencing JC metro's stats, not the city pop itself.

True, but if that was the case and they used the number over 190k for population, that would have to include the other Tri-Cities...correct? If that is the case Eastman by far is the largest employer in the region. But then again, if they were using the entire region, the population number would be way over the 190k because the population in Washington Co. is 107k, Sullivan Co. is 153k so that would be 260k. hmmm..... now I am really curious as to what the author was really referring to when they said " Johnson City"??

Beginning to wonder if the author actually did the research now.

They're using the 2007 estimated population figure for the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, provided by the Census Bureau. The Johnson City MSA is made up of 3 counties: Washington, Carter & Unicoi.

FWIW, the Kingsport-Bristol-Bristol, TN-VA MSA (counties of Sullivan, Hawkins, Washington (VA) & Scott (VA) plus city of Bristol, VA) has an '07 estimated population of 303,686.

Yep, kamoshika beat me to it. The Census Bureau splits the Tri-Cities into the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area and the K-B-B MSA. I'm not sure if they then combine them into a Combined Statistical Area or not. Do you know, kamoshika?
