Dear Friends:
When I was growing up, the main "activities" in our area were church and volunteer fire department oriented. I gather from reading other posts that the fire dept in Bristol is "paid" as opposed to "volunteer." What other opportunities are there for volunteer service?

Looking at a couple of maps, I see mention of an "Essential Services Building" out on Volunteer Parkway. What is this--Police? Fire Dept? What?
Thanks

Is the building real close to Avoca school? I think you are talking about BTES, which is basically a local version of the utility/power company. Confused me some when I first moved here too.
Don't know any about volunteering, sorry.

The closest Volunteer Fire Company would be the Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Dept in Blountville.

There are lots of opportunities for volunteering in emergency services in the area around Bristol (and Kingsport). Fire halls are still a place to hang out and wait for the klaxon to sound.

Sullivan County Fireman’s Association

This is just Sullivan County, Tennessee. I think you will find similar squads in Washington County, Virginia though administration and funding may differ there.
