Last year my family dined at Shoney's, the food was wonderful. This year I am looking for an atmosphere that is more intimate. Wondering if we can get the buffet and quality food with less lighting and noise, better decor?

I have heard a couple of people talk about going to Cracker Barrel, and/or Bob Evans. I assume they know these places to be open.

Personally.....but that's just me.

Fatz is open for Thanksgiving although with limited hours, I ate there one thanksgiving with my mom and grandmother. We all enjoyed it and had a good meal, we ate at the one in Kingsport.

Make sure you give extra tips to holiday workers - I'm sure they would rather be with their families, but a large tip helps soothe the burden.

Some businesses are kind enough to pay considerably more for working on holidays. (I was lucky back in HS to work for such a restaurant.) However, you are right. Many of these people choose to work on the holiday because they need the extra funds, so tipping well is a very good thing. Also some places that serve buffets or similar are actually fairly crowded on the holiday, so try and be compassionate with your server if they seem overwhelmed from the volume of people. They aren't likely just ignoring you on purpose.
