Late last night I heard a bird singing. Any idea of what kind of bird sings at night this time of year?

More than likely you're hearing a northern mockingbird. They have a range that extends pretty much everywhere in the southeastern region of the country. We even saw them fairly far north in the eastern states. I love them, and wish they would extend into the western regions. Lucky you.

Yes, it is likely a Mockingbird. In summer they sometimes will sing all or most of the night

Thanks. I've heard mockingbirds can not only imitate other birds, but other animals...Didn't know their skills extended to imitating alarms!

It was amazing! It sounded just like the alarm. The only reason I knew it was the bird was because he was sitting in the tree right next to my bedroom window!

Thank goodness he grew tired of that rather quickly!

I wonder if they are the only ones that sing at night? Some nights or might I say early mornings 1AM-2AM (my husband leaves on trips and thus I stay up to talk to him different time zones) I hear 2-3 different birds singing... I always wondered what they might be...
