What's the best place to stop and stretch our legs and maybe have a picnic lunch on a drive through Knoxville while on a road trip? We'll have 4 young kids and a large dog so a pet friendly park would be nice.

Thanks!

There is a very nice park off the West Hills exit of I-40/I-75. It's West Hills Park on Winston Road if you'd like to google directions. Nice walking trail, pet friendly, pavillion, 2 playgrounds... I'm sure others will have suggestions as well. That park is in my neck of the woods so I'm familiar. Safe travels!

Sharp Ridge memorial park is the highest point in Knoxville and has nice facilities. Also, World's Fair Park downtown is a nice spot with the free Sunsphere to visit, probably the most famous attraction in Knoxville

If the dog is well behaved and you like gardens the UT gardens beside the Ag campus is very nice. Very easy to get to off Alcoa Highway/129.

Here's a map.

I would recommend Seqouyah Park. It's one of the most beautiful areas of Knoxville and there are a lot of dogs there. It's just safe and beautiful. Take the Henley Street exit, turn right at Cumberland Avenue, it will turn into Kingston Pike. Take a left at Cherokee Blvd. Follow that until you come to the park and river.

Looks like you have plenty of good options. Just make sure to buy something and throw us some sales tax dollars while you're here

I assume you want something close to the interstate. If my post is not too late, there's also the PetSafe dog park (unleashed) at Lovell Rd. (take Lexington Dr to Cogdill). There are a lot of fast food places at that exit. Of the others mentioned, only West Hills is right off I-40. If you need fast food choices right at the exit, you better stop before 383 (Papermill) - too much driving and lights and "where is it???" from that point east. (if you're coming from the east, exit 407 has food or you need to go on to exit 380).

Could also get off the Papermill exit and take the extra 5 minutes to Lakeshore Park, it is 2.2 miles to walk all the way around, and has plenty of pets! They just put in a doggie water fountain last year.
