You can google up some MLS sites. Maybe one of the realtors will tell us if there's a keyword for character or cute.

Nothing to be sorry about. We're glad that you're here! You can search Knoxville Area Association of REALTORS or Real Estate Listings, Homes for Sale and Rental Property Listings – REALTOR.com® for local listings. We just can't link to specific houses. Also, a great way to see a great view of houses is Web browser and Live Maps are incompatible once you have an address. Go to "Birds Eye View" if the map has it. I love it! Good luck!

PS. What about keyword: "charming"?

Yes and no. When a realtor creates a listing on the MLS, they can type in any information they want to describe a home, including features, selling points, etc. This section is called the "public remarks." When using a public site to locate homes, you're relying on that server's database to pick up on tag words listed in the public remarks. For instance, a realtor may write "large living room with charm, built ins throughout". This can be found, depending what search site you use, and how extensive and detailed the site is. Unfortunately, sometimes a realtor may want to emphasize something else, such as the size, kitchen updates, proximity to coveniences, etc in the public remarks, making it possible to miss a home with the specifics you want.

The best way IMO, is to search by style. A realtor must post a style to list any home. There are a number of styles a realtor can list a home as. For instance, a new home in Farragut would be contemporary. The styles that most match the "charm and character" feel are cottage, tudor, chalet, historic, victorian, and colonial. Performing a search, given your area and price range using these style types will allow you to narrow down your search. Then, browse the interior photos of the one that interest you to determine the level of charm for yourself. This way, you're not relying on someone's else idea of selling points in a house, but yours. Unfortunately, most sites if not all don't allow you to access the "style" information. The highest level of search criteria is only accessible to realtors, to be used in conjunction with a client's needs to provide them every listing that matches their criteria. Hope that helps...

P.S. Bungalow is not currently a style type in the MLS, though will be used sometimes in the public remarks, such as "cute bungalow on secluded lot".

Good to know. What style would an arts and crafts bungalow be? I suppose some could be called tudor (like the tudor revival ones) but certainly not all... I'm just curious. I don't even know if mine had a style listed.

Aqua,
First, if the house you bought or sold was listed on the Knoxville MLS, it had to have a style attached to it. Its a required field when entering a new lsting. Though if your not looking for it on a MLS brief, it can be easy to miss. It will read STY: CONT for a contemporary style type home, and so on. It's listed with abbreviations, as usually realtors are the only ones getting the full briefing sheet, and they know what that means.
Second, arts and crafts bungalow would best be found or listed as a cottage or tudor
Hope that helps...

I was just thinking about this today as I drove past forest hills.

To me Bungalow has wide eaves and a flatter roof - Tudor has a steeper roof and narrow or nonexistant eaves. Both are very cute but in different ways.
