My husband has recently taken a new position with his employer and his office will be in Knoxville. We are looking to move next month. For the time being, we plan to get an apartment on a 6 month lease to really get a feel for the area. Then we plan on finding a house. We are riding up this weekend to look for an apartment. Does anyone have any suggestions for areas to look? I have been told Halls and Powell are nice places yet I am having trouble finding apartments there.

I have lived in the Halls area off and on for almost 3 years and I haven't seen a lot of apartment complexes. There are quite a few houses for rent and even some duplexes as well (I currently live in a duplex where the rent is $525 a month). It's not the greatest place I've ever lived in, but it's been getting the job done for over 2 years at this residence. Halls is generally a nice place to live, plenty of grocery stores and the like. There are department stores to be had and a couple of Wal-Marts within close driving distance. There's a mall close by, but nothing to write home about. The better mall is about a 25-min drive from here. Don't know much about Powell, tho...

Powell is nice. Halls is kind of far from any major highway. Where will your husband be working? If we know the general vicinity then we can better help you.

Halls would be about 20 to 30 miutes. Powell could be a shorter commute but maybe not. It really depends on where you would live,

You are correct. There are not a lot of apartment complexes around there. My daughter has a friend at Steeplechase. One of the townhomes. It seemed nice. That should be a less than 15 minute commute. They have short-term rentals.
