Had lunch with my bride the other day at La Iguana, the new restaurant downtown in Las Cruces. Boy, was that a major disappointment.
Slow and
careless service (lots more training needed even after being open a few weeks), very slow serving of the meal (despite not being half full of patrons) and very disappointing food. The potato salad side dish was
great, but that was the only thing. My Monte Cristo was barely portioned with ham, and my wife's beef sandwich was similarly skimpy. The pasta salad side dish was tasteless and awful.
On the way out the door she said " I'll come back, but just to have a double side order of the potato salad for lunch. I think she meant it.
The couple at the next table left minutes before we did, vowing not to return for the same sort of reasons stated above.
I was SO hoping it was going to be really good, or even just ok enough to encourage a return visit, because downtown needs more than Zeffiro's and Ono Grindz as a dining option. I'll try it again in a couple weeks or so out of fairness, but only for that reason. My lunch as it was gave me no reason whatsoever to return.
Bummer!
By the way, and on a positive note: the new Vietnamese restaurant Pho Saigon was pretty good. They've got a ways to go to beat Tres Bien Pho in El Paso, but I'm giving them a thumbs up
Try it, but learn a little about Vietnamese food before you go, if you're not familiar. You'll have an easier time navigating the menu. Buen Provencho!
