Some of the advice was excellent, so thank you very much to those who posted. I would love to ask plenty more questions but because I don't have much to contribute back, not being a local, I feel a bit bad because I can't add anything to the discussions. Although I have been constantly checking this board for info.

We still have to get a few things to our bank here before we get approved for our loan so it's still early stages. Not to mention not being able to set up a US bank account! BUT it looks like I may be heading to LV late October (yay!) so I can get stuff like that sorted out then and get the ball rolling. Thanks again to the City Data LV community for helping me out. Cheers!
We have quite a few Aussies living here in Las Vegas, Chips, too bad you can't come here to live!

Sure, I would be happy to, but I live in Australia. Our homes are starting at $400,000 here (!) these days so it's massively expensive, hence why we are looking to buy in the US.

MomMom, I would love more than anything to live in Vegas for a year or two. However my husband (the main breadswinner) is not confident he would easily find a job (he's in IT and there's not an abundance of jobs) upon returning to Australia and we know how hard it is to get visas/green cards so we've ruled it out for the moment.

Dear all,

Just wanted to give you an update: we now own a house in Elkhorn Springs! It all became official today. We still have to renovate but I am now a Las Vegas home owner!!!!

I have contacted a couple of members who I believe live in the area, but if there is anyone in Elkhorn Springs who would like to help me on something please PM me. I have an idea that I'm not sure will eventuate but would like to at least give it a try. If it doesn't work out at least I'll know a few people in the area.

Thanks for all of your answers in the early days when I had questions.

Throughout Australia?

Or just the main cities of Sydney & Melbourne?

That's crazy if throughout.

That's the cities like Melbourne, Sydney and Perth but the country is cheaper. And $400,000 is the starting point for a house, they go much higher in suburbs closer to the city.

HI all:

I am looking to move from NJ to LAs Vegas. I have family there and am looking to find a trustworthy and affordable moving company. Anyone know of one? Any advice?

I have run/bike/hike well over 22K miles since I've been here. That's my story.
