Don't worry, it was just a bit of hyperbole based on the way the thread seemed to be headed when I wrote my post.

I really don't see it as much of a gamble. I have a year's worth of expenses in savings and no strong job prospects waiting for me anywhere else, so I might as well live somewhere with a long cost of living plus lots of industry. Plus all my belongings fit in my vehicle, so moving is no big deal for me if things don't work out.

The checks long ago stopped rolling in for me. Happened while I was still in Boston.

So I'm doing the same in Las Vegas as what I did there. Taking whatever I can get. Even if it means part-time, temporary, or consulting work. I'm networking like crazy here, which is what is bringing in most of the consulting work.

And I sent out just as many in Boston and surroundings areas and NOTHING.

Wonder if he ever found out a job in CA? If he did, what did he settle for? Probably the same kind of job he could have got here if he really tried.

The cost of living there is as high as NYC so even if you did have a job and then lost it, then what? At least here you can afford to eat and live.

Default To Retire?

We're not quite there yet, but perhaps you should allow for those who don't require employment to move to Las Vegas? Mayhaps they drive to slow for you? <grin> I understand your concern, but perhaps you are projecting your own lack of success there on to others? Vegas has a lot to recommend it but it is indeed visiting hard times right now. I suspect should the population of retired folks grow enough things will get better. I hope you find a more positive track yourself. Good Luck to you.

Las Vegas will be a great place to retire!!! Clean air, clean air, oh, and did I mention clean air!!!
The air in Las Vegas is less polluted than many big cities and especially Los Angeles, but it's not that clean. If clean air is your biggest priority, Las Vegas is not the place to go.

What is really killing Jobs in Vegas is Casino's Nobody there get's it...

In Michigan right now has more then 8 Casino's, other states are doing the same with making there state look like Vegas.

Vegas Don't get it. How many Casino are you going to have there? other states are getting the Money Now people are not Flying anymore to Vegas when they can take a Local Drive to goto there State Casino.

Right now i get emails Saying Come to MGM for $55 a night or $22 at Circus Circus.

Vegas can tell everyone Free Rooms right now and that would not Matter to people when the Airlines cost alot to get there. Most everyone Money is gone before they get to Vegas right Now.

That is what Vegas needs to know.

My Idea would Save Vegas but the Big Wigs down want to hear it.

Give people free rooms and Comp them $100 Free play to play at the Casino Also throw in a Meal.

The Casino Always wins so what would it matter to them right! they will get that all back and maybe the people will spend more in there Casino's...

There are plenty of cities to move to with dramatically better employment availability. Wyoming, Omaha Nebraska, North Dakota, Arkansas, New Orleans, Honolulu and almost every major city in Texas.

America's most recession-proof cities - Sep. 15, 2010

The only place listed with great weather is Honolulu, but then you have a very high cost of living. You will just have to deal with snowy winters or humid summers if you want abundant employment opportunities with low cost of living. You can always leave and move somewhere else when the economy improves.
