Well, we have been here about three months now and I love it. Without airing dirty laundry, we have had a scarily rough ride since arriving. Things have happened that I could never have imagined and my stress limits have been tested more than ever before in my life.
With that said, I have also discovered that I was right in moving here. I love love love the landscape, the amazing amounts of shopping that is available and the people (with an exception or two).
I don't know why some people insist that Las Vegas residents are unfriendly. I have not found that to be the case at all. In fact, I got a flat tire Friday on my way to work. I pulled into an office building parking lot and got out of the car. I guess I looked pretty lost because some guy came out of the building, said he saw me from an office window and stopped a meeting he was conducting to come out and change the tire for me. I did not have a jack in the trunk and have no idea how to fix a car but he had me on the road in about seven minutes.
So even though several events have occurred that completely rocked my world, and caused me to treat a friend or two badly due to that stress, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is NOT an oncoming train! LOL
The weather here is fantastic! There is so much to do, see etc! And I love that no matter what direction I am driving in, I can see a mountain range.
The renters in my building are all like a big family and they have been awesome. Anyway, wanted to turn in my three month report. My son is begging for us all to turn around and go home.. NOW. But his wife and I love it here so it is two against one! We are staying! HAHA

What is your son saying about Las Vegas? Why doesn't he like it?

If you don't mind me asking, what does your son strongly dislike about LV? I'm glad that over all you are happy with the move.

Edit: Sorry, started posting & was interrupted before Logline's post asking the same thing was up.

It is a long and private story... but it really has nothing to do with the city. And he will figure that out in due time. And, just so you all know... I AM going to get a scooter. I think they are cool and the gas mileage is unbeatable. So when you see me flying around town, give me a wave and a hi! LOL

I know they can be dangerous. I only want to use it to run to the local store and back. I am a scaredy cat to go any further than that. I will be careful AND will have a helmet.

When I was transferred to Albuquerque all I did was complain because it wasn't Las Vegas. A buddy pointed out to me that it wasn't better or worse ...it was just different. After that I shut up, and realized when in Rome, and all that, so I did as the Albuqueruqeans do. Now I wish half the time we never had to leave there (the other half I know there's no better city than this one).

My late ex-wife was so unhappy here the first three months she went back home. It took another six months to persuade her to come back. I don't know if it was me, or if it only took that long to realize she had it much better here than in a small town back east. But once she came back, for the rest of her life, wild horses could not have drug her away from this town.

And I have seen that happen to other people a thousand times. Which is why this town, since it's founding in 1905, has doubled or trippled in population every decade since.

Last year, I got side-swiped riding my bicycle to the corner store. It was a pickup truck that whacked me with the side-view mirror. I got knocked into a ditch, and onto what I think is the only wild cactus extant on Hollywood Blvd.

Do you think the drunk-ass driver, swerving down the road (and blaring Mexican polka music), stopped to see if I was OK?

If I had been going any faster than 10mph, I'd likely be toast. As it was, I came home covered in road rash.

You couldn't pay me to ride a scooter or a motorcycle in this town. Too many drunk drivers (who can pay their way out of a DUI) and too many distracted drivers on their cell phones.

Glad to see you made the transition. I will be going through it soon so it is good to hear from someone with a bit of history to re-locating. Do be careful with the scooter it is a problem everywhere and most of the time the car driver does not see you drunk or sober. I hope you enjoy more good times and in another 2 1/2 months I can get rid of my cold weather clothes for good and hope I have enough shorts to wear in Las Vegas. I'll keep an eye out for scooters when I move there lol.
